Washington State Historical Society
Downtown Tacoma has a lot of history in its old buildings with each one telling a story. This is a picture of the “Washington State Historical Society” built in 1909 on Stadium Way. The original building cost $25,000 and then in 1973 a new wing was added to the facility. In 1996 the Society opened the new Washington Sate History Museum next to the restored Union Station downtown. When I drive by the original building I always wonder if it is vacant. I guess I need to investigate to answer my question unless someone out there knows the answer!

Hi, Carol.
The building houses the Washington State History Research Center. Among other things, it is where the permanent collection of the Washington State Historical Society is kept and cared for.
You can find out more about the Research Center here: http://www.washingtonhistory.org/wshs/research/index.htm
