Last fall I posted a picture of Union Street in Northend Tacoma when the leaves were bright red, yellow and orange, now I wanted to show it to you in Spring. It doesn’t matter what season it is, this street is one of my favorites in Tacoma!

Santa traded in his sleigh and is coming this weekend to Tacoma by train! Bring the kids and enjoy a train ride with jolly old St Nick. The fare is $1.00 (plus tax) unless you are under 3 years or over 99 years of age then it’s free. The train runs this Saturday and Sunday between the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Camp 6 located in Tacoma’s Point Defiance Park. After the ride with Santa enjoy a hot cup of chocolate or warm cider and cookies while warming up around a pot-belly-stove. Don’t forget to wear warm clothes and bring your camera. Camp 6 is a replica of a logging camp set up by logging engineers in 1964. The picture is bunk cars the loggers used for housing back in the day when horses were used to haul out the timber from the woods.

If you are looking for a fun place to take your children this holiday season….Zoolights is a must see!! Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in Tacoma is having their 20th anniversary of lights. The zoo is transformed into a winter wonderland decorated in tons of lights; to be exact there are 27 miles of lights which means there are 525,000 total lights. Wow, I have a hard time putting up one strand of lights! Walk through the zoo seeing all kinds of different animals while enjoying music and live entertainment. Check out the reindeer I saw at the zoo. Hmmm….I wonder if one might be Rudolph!

Ruston Way is one of my favorite parks in Tacoma! It is minutes from downtown Tacoma and is graced by Puget Sound waterfront. The panoramic views are spectacular of Vashon Island, Olympic Mountains and Mt. Rainier. It is a two-mile drive with large paved walkways. I remember in the 70’s when I had my bright orange Datsun 240z and would drive up and down Ruston Way! Back then it was so innocent posing up and down the strip in a cool car (well, I thought my little sports car was cool)! You would see guys parked in the bright sunshine waxing their cars getting their hotrods ready for their Saturday night dates!
Today Ruston Way is prettier now then it was then. After closing the last of the lumber mills on the waterfront in the late 70’s, it has been transformed over the years into a beautiful park. Now you will find people walking, jogging, bicycling and rollerblading along the paved walkway. There are large grassy areas along the strip that you will see children playing, people having picnics or just sitting and enjoying the breathtaking views.
There are great restaurants outlining Ruston Way. One of my all time favorites is Harbor Lights which has been there since I can remember. Growing up my parents would take us there for our birthday dinner and oh what a treat that was back in the day! Today, there are numerous restaurants; Lobster Shop for seafood, Katie Downs for pizza, Shenanigans for Sunday brunch or the new Dukes restaurant for chowder; to name a few.
Ruston Way is definately a place to experience!
